Hi All
me and a mate took a trip to the former RAF Hampstead Norris on Sunday afternoon.

RAF Hampstead Norris was opened in 1940 and closed down in 1945 it was part of 12 Grp fighter command.
The concrete and tarmac run ways are gone but many of the pill boxes and air raid shelters remain.

bellow are just a few pictures form the day if you want to see more go to

That pillbox is really something...metal embrasure shutters...AND what looks like a metal shutter to the inside entrance...AND one to the outside too! Helluva find, Newage. Fabulous site and pics. :)

Thanks

There was only one metal door per pill box, the one on the floor inside was so heavy I could only just move it with 2 hands. The Graffiti on the inside of the Stanton shelter was done in pencil and next to it was a faded date of around 1950. These shelters are in a group of 3.

Nice, Ive been meaning to pop over there for the last month or so. I thought there may be air raid shelters down there but wasnt sure. Good to see them.
That pillbox is a top find aswell, Great condition!

Now that a nice find. Like the pillboxes, they look in excellent condition, and you don't normally see them with any metal doors still either on or around the locality of it. The whole place looks in great shape, like to stuff like this, especially when natures reclaiming it all back.

Excellent pics mate,

Cheers,

:) Sal

From what we found on sunday there are 3 stanton shelters and 3 single entrance pre fab shelters and 1 twin entrance brick shelter, there are 4 of the 6 loop hole pill boxes and some where there should be the remains of a demolished bill box. The main perry track is in good condition all round the site, but there are no other buildings other than the hanger.

This place is massive so to help have a look at this.

Now these locations are only aprox so don't blame me if you spend lots of time looking around.

And GO IN THE DAY TIME or you are never ever going to find them. One pill box is inside the woods and so are
the brick air raid shelters.
