Wartime GWR Telephone Exchange Bunker, Newport

Built in WW2 as a hardened GWR exchange. Pretty much empty inside but still somewhat photogenic and a interesting find as i have never seen photos inside.

The bunker has a entrance and emergency escape both fitted with gas proof blast doors, a what would have been a ventilation plant room and main room next door which im guessing would have once housed telephone equipment.

GWR had many of these type of bunkers built across the region with only a few remaining.




Possibly original graffiti!?

Possibly is original the graffiti. I remember my grandparents using leaves when I was a kid. I still leave some tea to this day, due to a mouthful of leaves in the last drops lol.

"Empty the teapots and stand upside down in the sink". No - it means the teapots, silly!

You put the tea leaves in a tea strainer next to the sink. Once it's full then empty it into the trash bin. Tea bags are easier. I still use real tea instead of tea bags - and a tea-pot.

You mean one of these? Have not seen one for decades when I noticed two of them in different sizes among the pots in the "little kitchen" of the old school house I bought two years ago. I was considering making a report on the building, but since I own it, that is cheating, right? Needless to say, I immediately stopped using tea bags and went back to "real tea".
