Report - Gibson Street Swimming Baths and Wash House, Newcastle - November 2022

This explore was a unexpected last minute tip off and so i went and unfortunately it was dark but had to do it as it was a rish going back and the door might have been locked,

Gibson Street Baths were opened in April 1907. The municipal washhouse and baths were located on the corner of Gibson Street and New Bridge Street in Newcastle. The building was designed by F.H. Halford. The baths had separate men's and women's entrances and the building is notable for its ornate tiles and glazed, domed roof. It was one of the earliest public swimming baths in Britain.
The swimming pool is hidden beneath floorboards in the 5,220 sq ft main hall, which is capped by a glazed, domed ceiling.
the building had been used by a badminton club that laid courts over the former pool but closed its doors in the 90s never to re-open.

Hey thanks Glynn, it was a dash over at the time and dark inside daylight would of been much better, id love to go back and do another but its been padlocked up.

I like the fact that the list of Committee members is also on individual white tiles - to match the walls. As for the bare-breasted mermaids and other females - a bit daring for Geordieland!
