Ok, the first site of the scottish roadtrip!! visited with havoc and lawrence.

there is VERY little info on the net about this place, but it is beleived to have "mothballed" in the '70s and then in the mid '80s upgraded to a reserve hospital site incase of large scale conventional war in europe, the "care and maintenance" status was reduced in the late '80s and the MOD sold the site in '94.

the site itself was SUPPOSEDLY a brillliant example of a battalion sized barracks, with plenty left to explore and see, unfortunately we arrived too late and there was only 1 big block, and 2 smaller blocks standing, but we got some pics anyway!!

Brilliant. I've passed that place so many times and never got around to visiting.

I remember that place not long after it closed, it was kept immaculate for years before being allowed to deteriorate. It really should have been done up as was and used for something rather than torn down.

Yeah its a shame they got into that state, are they sinks in the last picture?

When is the demo due to fully finish?

Used to pass it in the very early ‘90’s, on the way to Ayr to visit the future wife’s parents . I used to see the POL (Petrol, Oils, & Lubricants) & MT Garages, (Mechanical Transport) to those who’ve never served, as we drove past. It looked abandoned then. Always wondered which military installation it was part of? Sad day when the Scottish Rifles took disbandment rather than amalgamation with another regiment. Then you look at the hotchpotch of the uniform of the Royal Regiment of Scotland have ended up with? Westminster, unable to understand the difference of kilted Highlanders & Lowland regiments wearing tartan trews!

And for those who "have served", those initials bring back memories of Land Rovers, Champs, Bedford RLs, and the smells and sounds that went with them. The RLs had tyres that set up a loud whine when being driven at speed along a tar road; something to do with the chunky cross-country treads. As for "what has Westminster done for the Regiments - and the Corps (plural)", bits of the REs and the RASC became first the Royal Corps of Transport. The RCT and other bits became the Royal Logistics Corps. What next? PS - How many 1033s did you or your underlings fill out?
