I know this place has been visited and reported on quite a few times, but I wanted to just add some photos and tell everyone of the latest news about the site.
I contacted a local journalist and asked him if he knew when the site was going to be demolished, but he said that there was still no date for it. The reason for this is that planning permission was only granted subject to Persimmon Homes finding a user for a proposed heritage centre, health centre and pharmacy.
I hope no-one comes forward! I don't really want to see the headstocks demolished. Apparently, the headstock's winding wheels are to be made into an art feature, so the place can be remembered, but that's a pretty pants way to remember an entire colliery. There aren't that many headstocks left in the UK either, so shouldn't they be preserved?
Anyway, if you want to photograph the place, I suggest you get down there PDQ before they do start work on the site.
