Now this is a tricky one to find any history on, but here's what i got...

Built to house 8 young people suffering disabilities such as autism an through its life-span has been run under 3 different names, "Needlewood Care Home', 'Needlewood Resource Center' & i also found it been referred to as 'The Birchwood Site' when apparently bought by a company called 'The Option Group'.
The building was closed down in the summer of 2007 due to reducing demand for residential care for young people.

Danager is to had on the site, an comes in the form of pot smoking emo kids launching toilets about! Other than that tho the natives do seem friendly.

Ex'd in 0509 with RagaMuffin who in turn heard bout it from buddy Inveigh. Many thanks thought this was a wicked X!

Excellent shots Swedish! I love those close ups they are really cool! Was it a care home, as a matter of Respite for Autistic people or one of those places where they live with a warden to help look after them, a bit like sheltered accomodation?

thanks for the comment bro! And to business from the layout of the building an info i have found i would bet it would have been a warden sheltered accommodation.

i have to let you know tho, the only bit of 100% actual true info is the closing date an reason for closing. Found info on a PDF download from Barnsley council website, everything else mentioned is just info i have found while passing time surfing net at work an cannot grantee if is 100% fact.

Ah I thought it looked a bit like that! My stepdaughter is Autistic and I have seen these places before.
 
Nice pics there! Did you hear about the fire a week or so ago? :cry:

No worries, glad I could help! I have the rest of the photo's on my flickr. Actually I am still updating those! Need to catch up with Flickr after my holiday away!
 
yeah it would appear that toliet throwing to emo kids is the same as cabers tosing is to the scottish...lol :lol:
anyway thanks for the comments an sorry to say but from what i have heard the building is now burnt down
 
Looks to be pretty trashed. Thanks for ya efforts on digging out some info -interesting use of the anti-climb spikes in pic 7!

cheers for the comments bro, its evan more trashed from what i have heard now...romour is burnt down! info was pretty hard to find so if anyone knows different to what ive said all updates welcome...an yeah i thought the anti climb spikes were a bit OTT but still didnt stop the chav's getting in!
