Built as an asylum for the eastern side of cheshire, in order to relieve the Chester asylum at upton. Designed by Robert Griffiths, of Stafford on an unusual corridor-pavilion plan, with later annexes and additional colony extension. Nearly all gone (annexe, colony area) or converted (chapel, admin & clock tower) since closure. Two of the male blocks with male infirmary in between and also the fire gutted recreation hall were undeveloped in 2005. Evidence of on site security, in portacabin and not really worth a look unless you are close by.
