The buildings of Bass Maltings were specifically designed for the production of beer.
The site was purchased by Bass Ratcliff & Greeton in 1901, Mr H A Couchman designed both the Maltings at Sleaford and several other Bass projects. Construction started with the engine house, along with associated buildings, the project finished, some six years later with the smaller buildings, such as manager’s cottages, dining halls and offices. The site covered an area of 13 acres and included around 500,00 sq ft of floor space, costing, in the region of £350,000 to complete.Production ceased in 1959
In 1973, local firm, G Padley (Property) bought the Maltings, they used it for rearing chickens, and processing vegetables. The chicken rearing stopped, in the 90′s, when planning permission was given for houses to be built on adjacent land.
