Broughton Barn Pottery was founded by James Holding on a large clay deposit just below the windswept moors of Oswaldtwistle back in 1842.
Since the turn of the 19th century, little has changed and visitors were still able to see craftsmen dig out the clay on-site and make Waldianware in the tradional way up to some time in the 1980's when I believe it closed.
The business was renamed a couple of times and managed by James's sons and grandsons.
Apologies for the quality of the shots. It was late in the afternoon and the light had almost gone. The amount of non pottery related memorability was staggering, so a return visit is very much on the cards.
