The annoying message every explorer has found themselves receiving at some point:
“Hi can you tell me where RAF Upwood is, I’m going to do a band photoshoot there.”
Annoyance soon turns to anger when you read the next line…
”Y’know a horror thing, masks, loads of fake blood, HDR, etc.”
Where’s a peely wall to bang my head against? Anyway, I’m in a band and we were lucky enough to get booked to play a 10,000 seat stadium on October 31st - For Halloween. Speaking to the promoter he says:
“Yeah mate we need some publicity shots of the band for the flyer - get you all dressed up as zombies, loads of fake blood, make it somewhere derelict”
Typical.
It was quite odd seeing my two hobbies collide, being in a derp with my bandmates instead of explorers, but they loved the aesthetic of the buildings. James, an explorer by trade, but has just had a massively successful exhibition, and has branched out to weddings offered to do our photos. LadyPandora also can along to hold lights, do some filming, and generally document the occasion.
Anyone that knows me will know how much I moan about HDR, so you can all have a good laugh at me uploading some over-processed-eye-bleaching ‘photos’. It’s what has been asked for. Please forgive me.
We didn’t spill any ‘blood’ and took all of our rubbish with us.
Band being photographed:
After the shoot the band & photographer went home, but LadyPandora and I stayed for a couple more hours to roam about. The place is trashed now, but looking back, my first report on the place was over 8 years ago!
The thing I’ve always loved about Upwood is the perspective shots:
The tanks:

Thanks for reading. I’ll keep you all updated when James official photos come out. They looked absolutely stunning on the back of his camera.
