Default Fort Les Hommeaux Florains (Channel Islands) -- August 2018

Fort Les Hommeaux Florains was completed in 1859. It took five years to build, due to its rather inaccessible location; a rocky outcrop just off of the coast. It housed 67 men and had five guns. It was abandoned after only 30 years, and was not utilised by the Germans.
Apparently, the reason why the fort is so ruined is because stones from the fort were taken to build houses after it was abandoned.

There are less photos on this report, due to the fact I didn't have much time to explore before the tide would cut me off.

This is the last of the Channel Islands forts for now. I have a couple more German locations to post tomorrow, though.

Looks like the tide has eaten most of the brickwork over the years.

Loving these reports. The sea's claiming that one back. Beautifully photographed though.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
