Default St John the Baptist, Suffolk

    Grass Carpet Church.

Something a bit different i'd like to share on here, i'm back out looking for redundant and ruined churches and here is the first one i've come across so far. This is from the 14th century at it's earliest, with additions following the next century. The church became derelict because the next parish along became united in 1756 so then St John's became derelict and ended up loosing it's roof. The church was restored in the 1980's with the help of the Churches Conservation Trust who look after it to this day. The Bell tower is still intact.

The pictures aren't great, but I felt it was worth posting.

There's nothing wrong with your pictures Dauntless! They're lovely :) I really like this church - definitely one I'd like to visit if I ever got the opportunity, there does seem to be quite a lot of redundant churches in Norfolk. I was looking on the redundant churches website for Cambridgeshire and there's quite a few, so when the weather is better I'm hoping to go and visit some of them myself :)

Very nicely done. Cannot find any fault in your photography.

About us
DerelictPlaces is a forum for people with an interest in the history and documentation of disused, derelict and abandoned buildings to come together and share their experiences, photography and historical findings. Our military, industrial and historical heritage is fast disappearing under the pressure of regeneration, the need for new housing, and often through simple neglect; Our aim is to document these places before they disappear entirely.
