West Beckham ROC is an absolute Gem and possibly the best Preserved ROC in Norfolk.I visited with two friends, Mimble and Faz, nice to team up with you both once again, and good luck with your Wedding, look after each other!. On first arrival we could not find the Hatch as there were so many Brambles! Down the Spiderless Shaft we went and this is what greeted us

The only sign of Bunks were the Matresses at the back of the Post Sausage! Apparently this a 91 Closure and all the Bunks were rmoved from all 91 closures.

It never occurred to me until now that, if they ever actually used the chemical bog, they'd have had to carry it up the ladder balanced on their head to empty it. That's a task I really wouldn't fancy

Having been down a few of them, I'm surprised they never developed some sort of dumb waiter style arrangement into later ones.

Fantastic example though mate. Definitely going to have to take a look at that one at some point!

You will face a trek through a Bramblefest then Hypo, buts its well worth it! I for one would not fancy the Toilet Job as it would bring a literal meaning to being a Shithead!

nice explore shuck must do a ROC post at some point

btw the emptying of the toilet I now know how they did it after asking a relative who was in ROC in the 80's
one chap stood at the top of the shaft with a rope and pulled the inner can up and disposed of it in the undergrowth :)

Thanks a lot Andy, I only got into them because of this Site! Once I did my first I got the Bug big style!:)

Well done shucky, you've got me reminiscing again. It was the address label that got me! I was good friends with Chief Observer George Wells who was in charge of this post up until its closure. Explored many ww2 airfields with him, unfortunately a heart attack got the better of him:cry::. Still friends with his family though, his wife lives round the corner from me.:) Was there anything in the envelope by the way:question:

No I didnt look to be Honest Herc, I kinda think that would have been a bit too intrusive although there was a lot of gear in it! RAF Matlaske next if I can find it!
