Had a look round a few weeks ago, well worth a visit.

It closed in 1989 and is being developed into flats, shops etc

It's a great place and although totally stripped out, it's very photo freindly :)

I love this place, surprised to see no glass on the roof of the corridor with the Lincoln crest on now. And love that chinese wallpaper. (didn't see that when i went, then again, it was getting dark so couldn't see half of the wallpaper :( ).

Excellent pics KE, love all the corridor shots,

Cheers,

:) Sal

That ceiling sure has a good variety of colours -none of which look to be standard NHS colours!

I think the ceiling has something to do with sound proofing...I have some pictures from the never seen before admin section :)

I think that you could be right. Those "honeycombed" recesses could act like modern day sound absorbing ceilings which trap the sound, thus reducing the amount of echo / reverberation. Also think that they might have acted as a fire-proof barrier, as I believe they are made from terracotta.

Pics from Admin -ooooh, please can we have a look-see? :)

I can't believe the colours that you have captured in these photos, what a simply stunning place, and excellent photos. I often look at Cane Hill, High Royds and the like, whilst they are fascinating, I can't help feeling sorrow for the people who were residents there. On one hand they were often set up by rich people to care for the mentally ill, a truly magnificent gesture, on the other hand in their heyday if you were sent to one of these places, it must have been truly terrifying. The work you guys are doing to capture these decaying giants is superb, give it 5-10 years, none of it will exist.

Summed it up well there :)
