Ok finally some time to myself to add to this post. Taking some time out for a little cycling and pillbox hunting i followed the Thames up from Goring to Wallingford. Missing out on the type 22 south of Goring bridge and having previously looked for the 22 north of Goring bridge (removed), i decided to cycle on the West bank of the Thames and see how far i could get before heading back. Enjoyable but tiring at the same time.

Having looked for the gun emplacement (am i ever going to get to one), i moved off to finally get success.

Located between two properties :

S0012061 Moulsford
I brazenly walked into the garden at the side of the property and took some external shots and a few internals.

S0012059 by Moulsford Railway bridge (western side) will need revisitng as it was completely hidden away. I was contemplating getting up behind the fencing further along but even David Bellamy would have had a hard time getting through that undergrowth. I decided to continue along the bank.

S0012056
Now opened up and the gate taken off. This has been converted into a bat house but was completely empty when i got there. Thankfully the mag light was used in this one as i might have freaked out if the bats were using their new home.

Located on the West Bank opposite to Cholsey and set away from the river bank.

Opposite bank located south of North Stoke. Enticing me to get around to the other bank one day!

Sat right on the towpath. It wasn't until i cycled back i noticed a rail socket sat smack in the middle of the path. The undergroth is heavy in this area and there could be more.

The first of the 28's i came across. Sat to the North of Wallingford Bridge and located next to a camping site. This is completely sealed off.

Finally the rain set in and i stood in a fresh cow pat to add to the fun!

S0012048
South of Wallingford Bridge and set away from the bank on a line of trees. Thankfully the cows were at the opposite end of the field.

Defence number 319 just visible. This pillbox was again set up as a bat house and probably occupied judging by the bat walk notices around the area.

Southern facing and in marshy ground. It has a twin ramp in evidence.

An intriguing lip tp each corner of the 28.

428835_2228954539367_1423445304_n.jpg

I then decided to head over to Benson Lock and take a rest. Thankfully this was the right decision as instead of crossing the long marshy field and leaving my bike behind i took the more cultured route around the rear of the lock and got to the pillbox really easily.

S0012042

Western facing and affording a covering field of fire for it's sister 28.

Thanks for the link. Interesting reading that and i aim to get over to the other side of the Thames to catch the others located there. It's good research you have done there and thanks for referring me to it.

nice one NC - intrigued if there is any information about the 'testing' on those boxes or indeed any others? are you a member of the PSG forums would be an interesting thread to start there - sorry for the thread hijack :)

I don't post on PSG any more, they are too anal for my liking and probably would not like how I get my photo's and TBH they don't seem interested.
Senn I was impressed how you went in the Moulsford one even I have not been in there. I did get in the four arches one at the railway base and it was very clean but your right in thinking it is not an easy one to get in.:)

I have 12 days off work so i shall get out there with the car and bike. It was the intention today but the rain put me off. finally i can get to a gun emplacement which was a little difficult the first time up there. I never took the bike lock so this time i aim to do so. Again as always thanks for the assist.

12 days ! man you'll cover most of the southern counties with the pace you go at :) Look forward to seeing the results mate

hopefully i am in Krakow for 4 of those from Friday. Ghetto walls, old Jewish Quarters plotted, Kommandants house, SS torture house plotted as well as Auschwitz. I say hopefully as my darned passport is being elusive but should be with me!!!. Sweating it. If i fail on that one then yes - busy on the home front.

In time mate. I shall look forward to finally meeting up with some like minded people. Exploring on my own if great but local and previous experience is a major bonus.
