Bury manor Farm in Tilney All Saints. The estate dates back since around 1030 when the land was bequeathed to the Abbott of Bury St Edmunds. Later on, one of the old land owners, William Huskisson, was killed in the first ever locomotive accident - he was run over by Stevenson’s Rocket. Owned by several big landowners over the centuries but got lost in time due to the last owner dying as an alcoholic in 1957 and the land being sold off by his widow who moved into a newly built bungalow just up the road. The property deteriorated and was stripped by gypsies in the 70’s leaving the shell that I remember from the 90’s. A local history group has been there in recent years excavating the rubble and recording what is left before it disappears completely…
