Bit of a hidden gem this place IMO, though its not really hidden at all. I was in 2 minds whether to post but believe has been reported prev & has certainly been all over fb & the papers by Sheffield's finest!
Forgive me here but any prev reports must of been a bit "meh" because I had pinned it as "looks ok" but was the sort of place that blew my mind when I decided to have a look, proper old school engineering shop with soo much left to see & a bonus lotus to boot.

Cant find a lot about this place, it was a general engineering & auto repair shop dating back to the 1950s. I believe in its early years they manufactured bottle washing equipment.
Spent a good few hour or so in here solo & thoroughly enjoyed it, so I'll let you make your own mind up with some pics!

That will have to do, thanks for looking.

Terrible terrible waste.. Something wrong with some people. Just the one lathe would cast an arm and a leg. Google "colchester mastiff" and see what htey cost, never mind the borer..

john..

It’s partly what fascinates me with lots of these posts. Why nobody had a sale and recouped some losses or did something useful with money raised. Does seem so wasteful.

crazy aint it but Iv seen hundreds of lathes over the years, it seems they are too heavy for most people to bother moving.

Selfish yuppie twats that just want to sit on the building then sell it years later. If nobody in the UK wanted them, the people in africa and india would love them..

Possibly, or owner has died & there is no next of kin, or there is but its stuck in custody battle.
My boss still owns our out workshop which is big old victoriana building in housing area prime for building, but in 7yr he can't sell it!
He had a deal with contractor to develop it which took 2yr to get planning etc. The contractor has spent 150k on ground surveys, plans etc & last min pulled out!
Basically with the rising cost of materials they have done the maths & with the alloted 32 plots they now stand to loose more money if they go ahead!
Crazy I know but there are lots of reasons places remain like this

Strange how the scrapmen haven't been there especially when the prices went up. That was certainly a skilled workshop and remarkably most of what is in there is newer than my still functioning place! Some useful lathes....
