Two buildings in the Darnall area of Sheffield just down the road from each-other. Both sealed tight but with nice externals so popping them together to make a report.

1. The Ball public house
The Ball (formerly Ball Inn) is on the corner of Darnall Road and Basford Street. Above the central second floor window are the words "Rebuilt 1904. Ball Inn". In its Victorian halcyon days the John Smith brewery was renowned for its ales, but later it became just another big brewery brand. It's been closed for some years now and is unlikely to re-open as a pub. That's a real shame as it has one of the nicest facades of any pub I've seen. It's apparently haunted by a thin, grey ghost said to be a former member of staff who committed suicide at the inn when she discovered she was with child. It was Grade II listed on 12th December 1995.

Sealed round the back:

It's got some lovely window details round the side:

But the best thing about this former John Smith's pub...

2. Salvation Army Hall
Literally just down the road and across from the Ball pub is this former Salvation Army Corps Hall. Built in 1931, it features two main halls and ancillary accommodation. It sold at auction in May 2015 for £206,000, well above its guide price of £175,000 (see HERE)

Next door there's the empty former Darnall fire-station which looked interesting but this was also a no-go:

That's a shame you couldn't get in to any of these buildings. The pub building is absolutely beautiful, part of historical Sheffield.

Innit? Used to drink in here occasionally circa 1989-90 when we were recording over the road at Darnall Music Factory with my old band.

I’d like to see inside the Salvation Army Place, definitely. And is that a man with a chainsaw outside the fire station?! Is that what it takes to keep you away?!
