Fountain Brewery, Edinburgh. The Return.

Sorry can’t help it!

The bits we didn’t do were niggling me, so we took our opportunity on a boring Saturday night to see if we could crack the rest of it.

Before tonight it was easier to add up the bits we had done rather than count the bits we didn’t. Now it’s easier to count the bits we didn’t! Yes!

Basically I’m happy we explored most of the green area I highlighted on the map on the previous thread. The only disappointment is most of the equipment has been stripped. Once I’d seen one empty room, or a corridor of pipes, I’d seen them all!!

There are still a few bits of building secured and a few rooms locked up but I’m happy it’s done. There is still the blue area but it is still in use and there is security so that will have to wait!

It was great night, getting to the bits we didn’t the last time. It was really windy and there was much noise so we were louder than usual!

I’m now fairly happy to leave it alone now, although I have said that before!!

My throat is still filled with dust and stale air. Because of this I’m going to post more photos to make it worthwhile!

A spooky tunnel which was flooded and damp. I think it led to the well (now gone) on the other side of the main road. Bottled following it to its conclusion.

A proud display of a newly constructed part of the brewery dated 2002. The brewery closed in 2004

JX was unhappy my 10mins more exploring had turned into an hour! I would have had a face full of dust if it hadn’t been empty. I like to think he knew it was empty….

Like I said I’m happy with what we covered. If we went back we would just be covering old ground. However I’ve said that before too.

Excellent you got to see more of the brewery, Hulk. Good photos and enjoyed your tour. Definitely some good interesting parts there.
That diagram is amazing.

Cheers :)

As of today, I can happily report that this place *is* great! Great that you managed to tick off some more parts, Hulk, and I'm reassured that I managed to see most of them, too. Cheers. :)

Fail to see why a bank with enough money to trample over all the local planning regs/zoning etc, so that they can build some monstrous head office, is better than housing, shops and a school. RBS has already used their ill gotten profits to do exactly this!

Cheers for that, Manuel ... did you have any luck, by the way? :)

Property prices in Edinburgh are so rampant that the window between places closing, and demolition, is short. I've been lucky in seeing Fountain Brewery, the North British bonds, and the old Fruit Market in Chesser Ave - they started to disappear pretty quickly afterwards.

There is no lack of housing in Edinburgh, you only need to look around and see how much is available. The north side of the city is full of new flats, in fact across the road where the kegging plant was is now beginning to fill with new ones. The new flats aren't "affordable" so it wouldn't solve housing issues.

The fact that one of the largest employers in the area want to show that they are sticking to the city is a good thing for the city. More houses and small scale offices are not what Edinburgh needs. The school is only an idea, there is no funding and with Holyrood struggling to keep open existing school there is slim chance of a new one being built with public money.

Still not got round to visiting FB, have been busy but will do...

Nice work matey! :)

Oooh, that tunnel looks cool -reminds me of the Underground tunnel construction. Some interesting shots -ta for sharing with us.

Lb:cool:

Good work - the place looks hardly lived-in! Has it been out of action that long?

I've been hiding for a while so I missed all the above replies.

I think it's easiest if I just agree.

I agree!!
