Passed what is left of this site numerous times whilst working over the summer, finally got chance to have a look see
Brief History
Guest and Chrimes was formed by John Guest and Richard Chrimes in 1847 and was a manufacturor of various brass products. Edward Chrimes had invented the screw down tap earlier in the 1840's but subsequently passed away. Their Don Street factory opened in 1857 in the New York area of the town. The company produced water pipes, gas pipes and fittings, taps and valves, fire hydrants and extinguishers, gas and water meters.
The factory closed in1999 when production was moved to Derbyshire by its new owners. Once a sprawling site, most has now been levelled to make way for Rotherham United's New York Stadium.
The 3 buildings that are left are empty, but what is left is a nice mooch around an old Victorian building. The floors on the ground floor are a bit suspect but upstairs is ok.
Thanx for looking, everyone!!
