Lurking dangers are ever-present companions in the world of urban exploration. Some perils remain concealed, while others assert their presence boldly, broadcasting warnings that resonate even from afar. Embarking on a voyage to France, we equipped ourselves with protective gear. Our destination was the heart of a decaying estate, a domain seized by the insidious presence of black mold.

Nestled beneath a shroud of overgrowth, this was home to an elderly art enthusiast and globetrotter. His well-worn passport narrates tales of countless journeys taken decades ago. His spouse's decease and his children's relocation left him alone, and in 2018, he departed this world for his final journey. Now, the hands of decay have painted a somber yet strangely captivating scene: a decomposition that's dangerously beautiful.

Within these deteriorated chambers, vestiges of the former owner's life endure. Cautious of the tainted environment, the heirs have refrained from entering the contaminated premises, leaving vintage treasures untouched. Behind the façade of such forgotten spaces lies a dark reality, one that calls for caution and respect. In this house, a toxic intruder is thriving in the shadows. Thus, an exploration demands more than just curiosity: it requires awareness and preparation to shield against threats that now stake their claim in deserted landscapes.

In the past few weeks there have been reports of occupied rented properties in the UK suffering from 'black mould'. Who is to blame? The landlords, or the tenants? There is a lot of talk about tenants unable to heat their homes adequately because of energy costs. Perhaps it is the same type of mould here. Is this mould really dangerous?
