Took me a while to find this one and when I did, I couldn't quite believe where it was, as I've driven within a few yards of it countless times over the last couple of years whilst out exploring.
March was a 1991 closure which, according to Subbrit, was locked and had been sold in '99 to someone planning to restore it to original condition. It looks as though they got some way through doing this, then abandoned it. There are signs that it has had a few visitors, but the lock has been cut off and it's starting to collect water.
Oddly, the original telephone lines are still intact and, despite the fact they only appear to serve the post, one of the poles has been recently replaced.
The post is buried in a sea of brambles, which is probably no bad thing, as hopefully they deter attention from any undesirables.
Unfortunately, they also meant I got cut to ribbons getting to the hatch
The hatch has had its locks cut, but obviously got painted around the time it changed hands in 99.
The original pump was intact, but appeared to be seized, so I couldn't do anything about the couple of inches of water starting to build up.
Internally, it was pretty bare, but the telecoms connection appeared intact and there was the odd bit of paraphernalia.
Not amazingly exciting, but the best post I've found in this area so far and a nice little explore nonetheless.
