Hi All
This started as a "quick look to see if it was do-able" and well bish-bosh in ya go.
The Martello battery built as part of the Sheerness lines was constructed around 1838 onwards.
It fills the gap between Garrison point fort and the rest of the Sheerness lines.
The Battery has 2 gun towers, these were modified in later years, one has an XDO mine observation tower
built on top, between the two gun towers is the Battery observation post (built to look like a large house).
Between and under the two Martello towers are the underground magazines and shell hoist.
The site was added too in WW1 and WW2 large caliber guns were emplaced to the east and west along with search light bunkers.
As the site is still part of the docks complex doing night shots with a powerful torch was not an option.
Pictures................
Large caliber gun emplacement.
This is the Battery observation post (tower) with part of center bastion in view on the left.
The underground west side features, magazines, expense issue hatches and the shell hoist.
Shell hoist.
The east side under ground area has magazines etc but no shell hoist, this may still exist but is in a blocked off passage.
Well there you go, I think another trip is in order.
Thanks for looking all comments are most welcome.
Cheers Newage
