I'd forgotten about this, spotted whilst on holiday last September, had no idea what it was until a few minutes ago.

This little gem overlooks the Sound of Kerrera and is one of only two that survive. The basket in the pics is where the officer would stand to look out over the Sound where anti submarine mines had been deployed. The officer would then monitor shipping, letting friendly vessels through. The intelligence was passed to the fire commander and the operator could disable or enable the mines, using electrical switchery, depending on friend or foe. How cool is that????
