Sunday I decided to go and look for some pillboxes I had seen on the DOB database I have on my laptop maps. They had been bugging me for a while and I had managed to spot a couple on Google earth. They are part of the Frilford to Fyfield part of the stopline so I drove off the Netherton Lane Fyfield to see what I could find.
After a walk down a track and round the edge of a field this is what I spotted
It was in good condion appart from rubbish and dirt inside.
There was a small digger which had been clearing the woodland round the pillbox
which probably helped see it.
After that a walk round the field edge I came across this in the woods.
This one was clean inside appart from the infantry chamber that was full of wood
Back to the road and a look to see if I could spot the next two on the other side of the road
I felt I could see one sticking out of the woods so another treck round the field again.
After sumbling round the field edge I came aross this, I felt deflated I thought this can't be
what I saw on Google earth, there was a hole in the roof not a hole in the ground.
When I got to here I noticed an Roc Post (sorry no photo's) behind but that was as far as I went as I did not have a torch to go down inside. then while walking round the outside of the post.
The second pillbox and looking in good condion of so I thought.
Check the crack on the rook.
This shows the reason for the crack outside some serious damage here.
This was the hole in the roof you could seen in Google earth though some one had fitted
a manhole cover to it. There was a wall added to the entrance so it makes me think the Roc post used this as a lookout point like the one at Culham.
This was how I got in the pillbox as the entrace was covered in Brables.
From here it was back to the car and off to Appleton common to see if I could get the dragons teeth I missed last time.
3/4 of a mile walk and a small treck along the edge of the Thames and I was greeted with this.
Wondeful set of dragons teeth. To say the least I was well chuffed.
Ths finised the day. If you look you can make out the back of a Type 28, this is in Denham College. I took it over a side gate to see if I could spot any thing. I have phoned them to see if I can visit and I just have to confirm a time to go along.
