Used to play in them as a child in the 60's, there are also a lot in the area of Hook pit Farm lane from Kingsworthy towards Worthy down Railway halt. there is / was at least one along the old dissused GWR line , between Worthy down and Kingsworthy junction. several in the surrounding fields.

Could that cast link not be a mount between the MG and the Tripod stand, it looks similar?

Bill - this may bring back some memories - :)

Yes thats the ones, its all coming back to me now, must of been at least 40 years ago that i was last there.
I lived and grew up in Springvale and Kingsworthy as a child. we used to ride around the field tracks and on the dissused Railway line on a old Motorbike, thats where most of the bunkers were.
The GWR Branch line to Didcot was closed in '67 with the Beeching cuts :( many a good Station lost then.

I have only just mentioned to my Son about the Worthy down halt being restored and the old Bunkers there.

Must go back again.

There used to be a big Farm at the bottom of Hook pit lane, ( which was known to the locals as Brights Track. after the farmer Bright.) with a big pond in front near the Springvale rd. I remember the farm being derelict for years. there were only a few Bungalows there then.

Thats all gone now and is a big Housing estate.

I have been going to the railway here for years so know it well. I have found all manner of railway artificats in the undergrowth including a GWR Tablet Exchanger. I had no idea that they were clearing the platform here though so thanks for the link. The wartime signal boxes along this line were of interest being built to an ARP design. Not sure if you have seen my thread on this but this was the one at Burghclere which is the same as the one that was at Worthy Down.
