The last time I was there (summer 08) I sat at the end of the runway and watched a BA 747 and a BA Airbus take off and undertake movements over the channel before coming back and landing. If that wasn't pilot training, something fairly odd was going on there! I also have been told (by someone who works at Manston, and whom I have no reason to disbelieve) that BA crews have undertaken fire-drill training there instructed by the staff of the Tri-service Fire Safety facility which is based there (and who regularly set fire to planes and fill them full of smoke). If there is good evidence to the contrary I will of course, stand corrected!

Watched the "real dads army" the other day (after a link for it was posted on here) and BHQ's were mentioned and apparently the reason they were built up like this was because the land was too flat and a better vantage point was needed.
