Hi there please be gentle with me as this is my first post here.
Raf Skaw was established at Lambaness in 1940 to provide radar protection from the north. The site was chosen for its strategic position and height and because it provided an unrestricted radar range. Although vulnerable from the air, the steep cliffs provided no landing place for an enemy approaching from the sea. The only small beach was blocked with metal posts. Electricity and water was eventually plumbed in, in 1942. The base closed on saturday 4th august 1945.
