1. The History
G.H. White & Co Ltd/EON works was situated on Earl Street in the Cultural Industries Quarter of Sheffield. Axis Architecture have been planning to demolish it and construct a new five-storey building containing 129 studios.
The former heat treatment works served Sheffield's metals industry, in particular the cutlery trade. It opened in 1939 and G.H. White was first incorporated in 1941. Shortly after the works were apparently damaged during the blitz. After that the history on the place gets a bit sketchy. Although Eon works has been empty for some time the company now trades as 'Special Steel Co' out of their new premises on Bacon Lane (S9).
2. The 'Explore'
Wasn't going to bother reporting on this but then thought that I might as well as it won't get another report so thought I'd give this place a last hurrah. What follows is a brief documentation of the site's demolition using the camera on my phone. The place was nothing special but the front offices did have a nice facade.
