Mockingbirds Adventure With Catmandoo

This will be the last for me for awhile, I have plenty more to upload when the time is right, also this is the last explore of the adventure with Catmandoo as the rest are not report worthy, basically a mixed bag of okay shots that some may find boring, so this is the last place, I shall upload off the adventure.

After visiting the unfinished lodge, we headed here after I told Catmandoo about it, Thanks Cunningplan!!!
So Catmandoo whipped out maps and began pinpointing where to be and where this place was, after a few moments of him drumming the steering wheel and beat-boxing, while the fiancee was asleep in the back we arrived sidenote - Catmandoo would rather use a map than a sat nav. :D

Some nice treasures lay await outside to be snapped up, but not allowed on the forum sorry.
We soon ventured inside, after seeing what I was up against, Catmandoo had a nose and decided to photograph the outside more, the fiancee didn't go to far inside either, leaving me on my own to venture
up broken stairs along none existent floors, it was like stepping stones, just with a nasty fall instead of getting your feet wet. I began snapping away instantly, taking in the feel of the place and what remained, seeing a few rats didn't bother me as they ran away under the amount of stuff on the floors but shouting down to the fiancee "saw a rat" soon made her itch closer to the door, as I heard her move about.

Venturing into one room Catmandoo was still outside taking snaps, I looked out the window and he tells me not to move - (slightly tricky with breaking floors) the floors below me began to crack and snap, the wardrobe in the room then slipped further to the floor below and all Catmandoo said was "that dont sound good" I was thinking the same and made a hasty retreat out the room.

Going back downstairs seemed more dangerous than going up, but tonnes of fun, before I went outside I had another quick look around the downstairs and then I saw behind a door a bookcase, next to that on the ledge was a book ive read a few times "The Bridge Of San Luis Rey - Thornton Wilder" and I then felt very connected to the place, anyone ever come across something they own in an abandoned place???

I then rejoined the fiancee and Catmandoo outside and began snapping away the outside, Catmandoo then pointed out the trees had grown around the treasures at the front of the house, so this place looked to be abandoned for a good 25 years plus. As we left we noticed the gate where the drive to the house would of been, I felt sad leaving the house but rather glad I saw it all the same especially the book.

Enjoy!

All in all it was a brilliant day exploring, and hopefully can meet up with Catmandoo and revist some places we simple ran out of energy for, cheers mate for a good day and entertainment :D Im sure Catmandoo has some photos lurking about!

Mockingbird, I certainly admire your ability to remember details from parts of the journey.... I've got to say it's pretty spot on and all true! I have 3 children and a very strenuous job, memory doesn't seem to serve me like it used to.

There must be a few old schoolers out there who prefer to navigate themselves around the country with a map rather than using shat nav, come on? Must be? . I Fekin hate those things, I thinks it's a matter of principal too. Let me see those hands!

Yes, very dodgy place and spine chilling to hear the snapping of those floors echoing through the woods. I can still hear it now!! Unfortunately, I don't think the weight of an extra body would of held and was glad to say I did not venture upstairs.

Judging on the place and the deterioration of it it seems to have gone down fast, very fast. I said to McBird that it must of been around the 25 years or so before it was last occupied...... Then when I looked closely at Cunningplans report, there is a calendar in the kitchen to correct my statement by 4 years..... 1993..
Don't ever ask me to become an archeologist without expecting error! :)

Very nice little find this is thanks to Cunningplan. You will not find this place on google maps. I can imagine that it is invisible at the height of summer.

There are some treasures outside that we cannot post here, the last time I did that Krela got his big wooden spoon out, and for reasons too! :) I'd be inclined to say that there is more magnificence in there than meets the eye. The history of this place is all over it....... I got excited when I saw a map collection :)

Not many from me I'm afraid.... None from the Steampunk Womble this time as I was too busy planning an emergency plan in my head after hearing the sounds of music that the floor boards were making. :)

Wonky window by DanCatt, on Flickr

Apologies they're not exciting.... Except for McBird in the top window... I think that would of been a safer option to exit the house to be honest.

I'd like to say a big thank you to McBird (that name rather than Mockingbird has dawned on me now, don't know why, maybe because you were up in that like a little..... Scottish..... Bird..... Maybe?! (WTF)) if it wasn't for him I'd of probably not of taken any photos of even posted anything on hear for another year or so. I've mentioned this many of times that I have a strong belief of cherishing the experience of exploring rather than photoggin it, and only when it's worth shooting, then I get the snapper out. 99% of the time it does not warrant enough photos to start a thread..... So thanks McBird for letting me hijack your thread with my small contribution and thank you for the experience. I don't come across a very influential and motivating guy this often. So many thanks again... Now it's my turn to come down to you!!!! :)
Who knows where the Cat n Bird adventures will lead.......

Mocking is a lot braver than me, I just stuck to the top of the stairs and landing, even then you could feel the floor move as you walked. Great shots again guys, while I understand why we can't post the items on here, being a mechanic the outside was a place of wonder.
You should thank yawningcat for this location, its a nice little (If unsafe) find.
