Both originally built and opened as Roadchef in the 1980s these two buildings were bought by Little Chef in about 1997-98.

Both branches closed around the year 2000. Ecton East was bought by a family and was opened as independent Scoffer's Café.

However it's neighbour Ecton West was unlucky and was left to rot and fall into disrepair.

Plans to convert the east restaurant into a motorcycle showroom were dropped in 2009.

Scoffer's Café on the other hand had lived on up until the COVID-19 pandemic had hit in 2020. The business had struggled for money during lockdown and had closed it's doors. Both buildings are still standing empty to this very day.

BTW Sunday is my birthday so feel free to wish me a happy birthday.

Scoffers was very popular with locals, hearty portions, pub like food and packed at weekend lunchtimes. Odd decor left over from when they were both run as AJs Family Restaurants. It had two random lampposts in the middle inside and everything was shades of brown.
I got a voucher for a free meal for one (evidently aimed at single people) at Scoffers just before it closed. A shame to never see one of their burgers again.

PS: Happy belated Birthday!

Great post. Guessing still no entry in to scoffers :( did try a year back and was all sealed.
