This was a night-time decoy airfield ,or 'Q site' to get all technical. Had to be well protected, not only for the generators, but also for the poor buggers who maintained and operated it to take shelter when they were bombed:exclaim:
So in fact it was an Air Raid Shelter come Generator Bunker.:)

Fantastic find, Shucky. I've been looking for a decoy site for ages!

...been out today to take pics of a similar building in Devon. Actually 2 buildings, One is for the generator of a decoy airstrip the other is for a generator for the decoy lights of Exeter....

Ooooh, can't wait to see those, Skate. I've heard about one near Newton Pop, on the common apparently...but which common? There's an awful lot of common there!!!
Welcome to DP, btw. :)

This little plan shows a typical bunker, same as the one at Kelling

Nice plan, Herc. Think I'm right in saying the concrete slabs on the right were usually bases for expansion tanks for the fuel.

Ok here goes! no help so hope it works.
These are two sites quite close to each other, the second is on public land and fully accessible to anyone.
The first bunker housed the generator for the decoy lights of the Exeter. The sign says it was built around 1942 and has now been made to stay damp for the bats. Access is possible.

The second bunker housed the generator for the decoy lights of Exeter airstrip. I can remember as a child playing in more of it but only the generator room is accessible now. It is quite close to the grenade range shown in the video (if it works).

The video is from Oct 07 when some unidentified small ordinance was found inside and exploded on the range.

The Use Of Brick to Cover Concrete Pill Box

Ive Never Seen a Brick Covered Concrete Pill Box Before ,I wonder if its Camouflage .

lyl-
The bricks were used as shuttering for a concrete infill in a lot of pillboxes. This would probably be when a shortage of steel/iron meant they couldn't use bars to construct reinforced buildings as per usual, so it may well have sped the building process up.

Yeah I did read that th Pillboxes were built very quickly, the threat of invasion must have scared us very badly.

Well the BrickPillbox here was part of the Chain Home Low Radar site at Happisburgh which are all Brick, built so logic would dictate that this would also be the case!!1
