Britain’s first operational military airfield was set up in Montrose by the Royal Flying Corps in 1913.
Montrose aerodrome was a pre ww1 rfc training and flying areodrome, and saw service through to the 1950s.
Site covers a very large area.
A lot is now sadly gone but most hangers are still there but now industrial units.
This thread covers the rifle practise ranges.
But there are still many places left to explore.
1st range is in better condition than second one.
Looking along top of 1st range
looking down on target lifting gear
looking along inside of 1st range
looks like one way of getting in to some place burn the door down (dont think door is connected with range but must have been carrid a long way to get there as range is in middle of knowhare)
view from rear of range
Rrange 2 cracked all the way along the top
large crack big subsidance
cracked from one end to the other whole range leaning severly
rear of range 2
going to have a further recce in coming weeks.
