HISTORY: Rylands Mill was named one of the top ten most endangered buildings in the UK by the Victorian Society. It was built in 1864 by Manchester's first millionaire, John Rylands, as part of the flourishing textile industry. Business increased rapidly, and in the course of a few years extensive properties at Wigan, along with dye works and bleach works, were purchased. Valuable seams of coal were afterwards discovered under these properties, and proved a great source of wealth to the purchasers. In 1985 the mill was taken over by Wigan Technical College and became known as Pagefield Campus, until it closed in 2007.

EXPLORE: We've been a few times now and every time there have been other people roaming around. Mostly younger teens. There's one other building and a bunker we still haven't been able to get into. The main bunker entrance people used for previous reports has now been sealed up and even the interior access tunnel is blocked further down. There's still a lot to go round here.

This next photo is actually on the top floor. The roof has just gone. And you can climb up that tower:

Then back down. I love a good set of 'basement stairs' on an explore:

Some more artwork by YERP. I've posted some of his graffiti at other explores we've done as well.

Great pics! Just sad looking though. Seems like a lovely structure in its former glory. I'm wondering if there is some sort of abandoned coal mine underneath or in its vicinity.

It's hard to believe that places like this are still standing, from a historical point they are woth saveing but you have to wonder when you see them like this. Nice work well impressed
