Returned to explore the elusive east side of Shoreham Cement Works. The history of the site is everywhere on past reports. In recent news, there are proposed plans to transform it into an eco-holiday park while retaining as much of the original structure as possible.
It's an amazing location. I just love the chimney, let alone the rotating kilns.
I saw the whole site and spent about 4 hours looking around. Hope you enjoy the photos. It was such a bright day there is some glare from the massive holes in the roof!
Straight in to see the rotating kilns. No overhead shots as couldn't get upstairs on cut off stairs!
The iconic chimney. Perfectly constructed - it feels so smooth.
Inside the chimney.
Moved on to the ball mill building which has smaller kilns. These had large metal balls in them to grind down the cement into a fine powder.
First through the engine room.
Then the kilns.
The conveyer belts to move the cement to the silos for storage.
One very steep climb.
Standing under the conveyer belt and silos.
On the way out I saw several abandoned cement mixers no longer attached to lorries. Just to complete the rotating theme.
Thanks for looking.
