Seahorse
Grumpy auld mod.
It's often the case that you don't know what youve got till it's gone, as the old sobg went.
And indeed, I've often just taken it for granted that one of the last remaining relics of GWR's branch line from Ellon to Boddam in Aberdeenshire would always be there. I'm talking of course about the goods shed in Hatton village. But like everything else in this world, it had to go some time.
Opened in 1897, and finally closed in 1945, it's still possible to walk along parts of this line. There are still odd remnatnts such as cast iron fencing posts, bridges and cuttings. But the goods shed was the only complete structure, still used right up until the other day, being used for storage by a local bakery.
Here is a photo of the shed from http://www.railbrit.co.uk/Boddam_Branch/frame.htm
I just happened to have my camera as I was passing when demo was well under way, so I took these for posterity...
I think plans have been lodged to develop the site for housing. The nearby Station Hotel now has absolutely no link with its name whatsoever.
