An underground explorer I know mentioned to me a while back that Le
Marchant barracks might be empty. Oxygen Thief had also noticed it
so we teamed up and had a look.

Myself and OT walked across the fields on our way to the barracks just
as the builders were leaving, so nice of them to leave as we arrive. Now I
thought we'd have to climb the fence or gates, but thankfully we found
an easy way in. The main building appears to be very secure it looks as
though the ground floor is totally boarded up, I really didn't think we'd
find a way in but after a bit of a look around we found doors that had
been unboarded, I guess by the builders?

Inside theres all kinds of stuff to look at, two armouries, kitchens, map
room, briefing rooms, officers bar, normal bar, store rooms, dormitories
etc. There are still posters on the walls showing you how to understand
rank insignia, or how to strip an sa80 rifle. Its a fascinating place for a
visit, shame the redevelopment has started.

Daylight pics from a recce a while back.

Is there any chance it could appear on the location map, it looks like a potential entry exploration to my list!:)

Nope, it's been converted into flats.

I'm keeping a close eye on the Barracks at Colchester, as pretty much the who of the original buildings (apart from those that are listed) are to be pulled-down for more housing.
Some of the buildings date back to Napoleonic times and apparantly it is one of the best preserved set of Garrison buildings left in the UK. Will keep ya all updated on any developments.
