Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse in Jutland Denmark started life on December 27, 1900 (construction started in 1899).

The lighthouse is on the top of Lønstrup Klint (cliff), 60 metres above sea level. Until 1908 it operated on gas which it produced from a gasworks on the site.

It ceased to operate on August 1, 1968.

Shifting sands and coastal erosion led to the buildings being abandoned in 2002.

--------------

Normally blocked for visitors. The entrance will be blocked again before summer and before the tourists season really sets in.

Lol, only because of the sand and the ocean  most of Denmark looks nothing like the Mediterranean... and the weather here is much colder than in the Mediterranean.

I agree, it has got that med or moroccan feel to it...especially the first pic.
Nice find, GeorgeK. Love the simplicity of it. Tis very nice indeed. :)

Super billeder GeorgeK a true classic spot

Lol, thank you, Not sure the pictures are anything special  but I always wanted to see the view from the top of the lighthouse, and as I our local paper had a very nice article about the place and a very precise description of how to enter it I really wanted to go have a look. The best thing about the place for sure is the view, but it's also ok to see the inside, I thought that the woodwork would have been more rotten, but it felt and looked pretty ok and stable to me :)

But as I said, the view from the top is really what it's about
