Melba Ltd Aka Tack Lee, Heywood - UPDATED 13-04-08 and 17-04-08

Hi all,

Drove past this place a few times while out and about and finally realised the place had closed.

As its my 1st excursion I had a walk over there today with the dog to check the place out. I didnt want to venture inside alone as it was my 1st time and also had the dog with me. Took a few pics but only had my phone with me at the time but they turned out acceptable.

The place looks pretty big from the google overhead map and I can confirm the building to the far left of the picture has been fire damaged quite badly. The other buildings seem fairly untouched from the outside, with an office block to the right of the complex and what looks like maybe a foundry or incinerator at the back with a large chimney.

Im looking to go back with a more expericenced urbexer if anyone is interested? Without my dog and with my camera this time.

Interesting place, I hate traffic cones, they never mean something good! I am always driving past miles of closed lanes and thinking there is nothing wrong with that bit of road at all, they just havent collected the cones, or the the cameras for that matter!!!

That looks like a very interesting place. Would love to see inside the offices and see if there's any paperwork left around. Looks very stripped out tho, but wouldn't mind a look if im up in that area.

I think not as the companys current address acording to the website is pictured above lol ;-) but yes they did make road cones and signs.

I remember this place from a few years back. My ex lived just down the road, and I passed it all the time driving up from brum on a weekend. Shame they've gone. The website aint been updated so all pointers are to it going under like so many plastic moulding companies now.

1st visit was 13-04-08 visited whilst walking the dog so only took a few outside pics with mobile, 2nd visit was on the 17-04-08 had a good look round the outside and ventured inside, pic further down.

Onto the pics:

2nd visit on the 17-04-08 outside and inside. Looks like there is an office section from the outside but once inside it turned out to be not the case.

Ok it didnt turn out to be the most exciting of explores but for my 1st time its not bad. The scariest moment was when the fire door clicked shut behind me once id gone in, {mental note} put chock in doors after you go through them lol

I love all those large metal chimneys and pipes. Some very good, descriptive pics, rvf, especially of the roofs and tiles. Really like those. Cheers.
