The RAF Yatesbury site consists of a number of buildings of various ages. Three hangars, all built in the 1920s are the largest structres on the site. They are undergoing conversion into industrial units.
Also extant on site is the main officer's mess and airfield admin building. This is a 1930's brick and concrete structre. Part of the roof has fallen in, and some of the floors are rotten. Within this structure, original RAF blue doors remain, as do shower units, toilets and light fittings of the war-era.
The only 2-storey building on site, located to the north of the main building is the officer's accomodation. Due to wood-rot, this is not particularly safe. The other buildings of note are a small accomodation block, to the rear of the site that is relatively intact, and the remains of the medical block, with a heavily weathered red cross on one end.
Several smaller buildings and pill-boxes are also found on site.
RAF Yatesbury was used for mainly light bomber use in the inter-war period and during the war. After the war, the site was briefly used for communications training before closure. The land is now in civillian ownership. There is unfortunately a planning permission (and some work has started) to develop the site into a mix of light industrial units and housing. The main building and the two storey building are likely to be converted, although some of the smaller outbuildings will be demolished. The site is currently accessible though probably not for much longer. As a piece of trivia, the site was used for filming the pop video for KLF's Doctorin' the Tardis.
