Shandon house was built in 1849 on 31 acres of beautiful Scottish hills.
It was owned by various grandees (shipping magnates, tobacco merchants, and such), before becoming a boys’ school which closed in the mid 80s.

The most understated first 2 words Iv seen on a sigh occur here, this is prob one of the most dangerous places Iv ever been stupid enough to enter & there is not much to see once inside tbh.

Shandon House was purchased by the Ministry of Defense…but since the Ministry of Defense has no actual use for dark fairy tale castles, the house has been derelict for over a decade, and may now be beyond repair.

This sink hanging on the wall was pretty impressive though

Thanks For Looking

Interesting to see the interior, not surprising it's a ruined shell. It's close enough to Faslane that folk have got into bother with the Military Police in the past when they've gone for a look.

I didnt realise it was mod owned at the time tbh, it is not exactly secure though & the paths round it seem to be public free for all, but then so is most of Scotland

Gave this stunning place a visit years ago but looked way too protected to get in.
Really showcases the bad and beautiful of the cursed species this place and it should never have got into the hands of the mod, in fact they should have given it to the protesters and I’m sure they would’ve done a passable job of doing it up over the years instead of it going to hell.
Worth looking up the horror story of the truly stunning East Shandon house which was nearby and demolished in an act of monumental stupidity in 1957.

I will have to have a read of that

A large area around there's used as a training area and it's effectively like a buffer around Faslane, Coulport and Glen Douglas. Even including some of the roads which are military roads which the public's allowed to use, as opposed to public roads, if that makes sense.
