The Wern Works, (Steel works), Briton Ferry, Neath.
Wow what a location! Huge empty warehouse with ajoining office building. With hints of its former life as a steelworks, from 15ft deep open pits to 15ft deep pits filled with oil. The place tells a story of a company that just ran out of money, you can imagine people turning up for work and being told to go home (right down to packs of brand new business cards to ketchup bottles remaining).
The most recent company to live there, NX, before that, Steelax Ltd. Bought by the current owner in approx 2003 for £345,000 - as a fully functioning steelworks with workforce.
The same owner wants a cool £1.3million for this building in its current state, and won't negotiate that price. I know this as I've been working closely with a company which was looking to potentially purchase this building. Needless to say, £1.3m is not a fair valuation, and the company is looking at other properties.
