Its not often I go down to Eastbourne and not go up and see what is happening at Hellingly but this was the first time I took my camera.
There is a connection for me, not so the hospital itself but the Work house which was on Union Corner, (I think that's what my mother called it) which was at the entrance.
My great grandfather, after 9 children his wife died, so he employed a woman from the workhouse to look after them. In the end he married her and went on to having 7 children of her own, one of which was my granddad.
Anyway, I had a hour or so free while my Mrs done her Christmas shopping in town, I went to the mill and then here.
There were workmen on site so I parked my car and walked towards what was left. I took a couple of photos over the fence and when no one took any notice I just walked about taking more. It was pointless going inside, they had been striped out and used for storage for the builders.
Well this is what is left of the main buildings (There are a couple on the left as you drive in, but they were well secured)
