Its a bit pic heavy
While doing some work back in my home land I had a spare sunday so I thought I would have a look for myself at the oil tanks. I wish I had the internet when I was younger as all this stuff would be so much easer to know about. Anyway sunday morning and Slim and myself head on up the rd
We had a laugh after I managed to get the van to wheel spin while doing 50mph on the A9. As we got further up the road and nearer the cost the snow turned to rain and stopped not long after we arrived. After a quick scout about we found a way in and off we we set both in high spirits.
Slim wanted to climb the small tank but we decided that it would be wise to do that last as we didnt want some Duncans(who said no he didnt want to come along as I didnt know how legal the trip would be) colleagues to turn up and go your nicked sunshine so we had a good wander along the tanks I think I liked the old tanks surrounded in brick the best.
By now my feet was getting wet and I wanted to have a look inside some tanks and also would like to see some of the buildings so we set off to find a hole in the wall.
Unfortunately Slim was not the right shape to fit through the hole As I hadnt on planned on doing any underground stuff so I didnt take my light so the pics that I took was not the greatest.
Next stop I think this would of been the furnace room It looks like there was 3 furnaces but only 2 are left now.
One with Slim in it for scale.
Looking back towards the hills.
The next place we visited I think would of been a pump room (feel free to correct me if i am wrong)
Next to the pump room and a little lower in the groun there is a small building that has pipes going into it.
Around the site there is garages scatterd about some for fire pervention and others for grass cutting the only differance was the paint on the doors.
Grass cutting garage.
A better view towards the hills
Now it was time to head back towards the tanks and find one to climb. We found one that had its steps all the way down to the ground and did not have heaps of barbed wire on them.
At the top of the tank there is a rotten walkway so Slim decided that he would stay on the metal stairs as I headed up to the top of the tank. Word of warning they are slippery when wet.
I find the wee tank strange as it looks out of place surounded by all the big ones.
View from the top.
When I was up there the train passed by
Slim and myself in the pic for scale.

Had a quick look about the building that has old trucks. As time was getting on and the next stop was Fort George we headed back a good start to the day.
