The History…
Browns Service Centre specialised in car mechanics & MOT with an attached car sales room. In 2017, A deliberate blaze was started & the business had nine vehicles destroyed in the flames. Although no info can be found to when Browns closed its doors - the company has since stopped trading & been dissolved.

Attached to the service centre is a very large yard where you can find a mass of damaged & scraped vehicles. From what I have researched the scrap vehicles are owned by the people of the Bickershaw Lane Traveller's site just 5 minuted away - They export the engines & axles from the vehicles while also having a second scrap yard for these on their travelling site. Whether or not all of the vehicles here were brought in by the travelling community or already existed here I cannot be 100% sure but the control of the scrap is now overseen by the licensed travelling site around the corner.

The Explore…
Not a particularly difficult find… you can see this one from the road as you drive past & access wise you can walk straight on in. The only thing worth mentioning is, it is traveller owned/occupied - I didn’t see anyone there in my couple of hours exploring but its worth keeping in mind if you have a look of a scrap metal thief…

Thankyou for reading & enjoy the Decay!

Wonderful that someone can make a living from it, it just strikes me that if the better buses had the seats ripped out/rearranged, with some windows boarded up or with curtains, it would make temporary accommodation for the homeless, a portaloo on sight and a water truck, and us e the engines for a cooker as well as heating/lighting, better than under a shop overhang. 2-3 people per bus, say. And maybe one engine powering several.

In less hide-bound legal days, yes. But where would you put them? And how many 'social services' agencies would want to be involved? I knew of an old woman who lived quite happily in an old horse-drawn gypsy caravan on a private estate in Devon. That was in the 1950s! And no one bothered her.

we are all tied up in red tape these days and battered down by jobsworths. Perhaps they could be towed to a brownfield site scheduled for development, but not yet fully ready, with the intent of longer term solutions being found for the residents. And the buses could then serve as site offices when building is ready to commence when their inhabitants have been found longer term alternatives. Or even serve as night watchmen, paid to oversee the building and offered social housing within the project when completed. Yes, I know it won't happen, it requires joined up government, give-and-take, and common sense, and no council can manage any one of those, let alone all three. Indeed, I think some of them have trouble with joined up writing, tying their shoes and waving bye-bye.

What a wealth of transport history rusting away. It is good to read that someone is legally selling on reusable bus and other vehicle parts.
