Visited first in December '08 and again in August '09, Dunmore Park is a great place with several interesting things to see. Located near Airth, the estate is best known for the Pineapple pavilion now owned by NTS, but there's also the fantastic Dunmore Park house, stables, walled garden and Elphinstone tower to take a look at.
The house dates from around 1820 and is the work of architect William Wilkins who built it in the popular tudor gothic style of the time. It has some beautiful features including an octagonal entrance hall and grand porte cochere. The estate was auctioned off in sections after the war and the house acted as a girls' school for a period before being abandoned and becoming derelict. In 1989 the owner was refused permission for demolition and was later fined for demolishing part of the rear service wing unlawfully. An application for restoration in 2006 proposed rennovating the property for residential use however this wasn't approved and so the house still remains ruinous. It's unspoiled location still makes it a desirable property for restoration however.
The following pictures are a mix of those from my two visits. Hope you enjoy![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
