The mine consists of one slope shaft, an air shaft and about two hundred yards of passage which is much smaller then most mines.

The air shaft would have once been a trial shaft, sunk to test the quality of the stone.

Rails were installed to move the stone and a lot of preparation went into the mine even though if was barely used.

It was later found out, the stone was poor and fractured. This meant that it was impossible to cut a large block so it was impossible to economically compete with other stone companies which explains why the quarry is so small.

Some very atmospheric photos. With my interest in Box Tunnel, I know the Corsham area quite well. I was up ther on 06 Apr, hoping to see the sun through the tunnel.
