Hi all
Day 1
This was the last location of the day, almost 4 hours wandering around this huge site.
The info I found on the web.

"This is a leper colony that never was.

The idea was conceived toward the end of the Spanish Civil War. This part of Tenerife’s arid, windswept east coast was considered ideal as a location for
housing Spain’s lepers at a time when the disease was rampant; there were just under 200 cases on Tenerife alone. Nobody lived here; the big centres of
population lay to the north. It was conveniently out of the way."

Why not? Should be ideal for dolphin or whale/shark watching. That the church was such a massive building is, I suppose, not too surprising. Had the colony housed the intended lepers, a lot of faith would have been needed when dealing with them day in, day out. Below the abandoned buildings is the modern township of Abades - with its streets of gardenless, back-to-back, single-storey, white-walled, red-roofed, same-pattern houses. Presumably nothing more than a dormitory town, it looks as sterile as the bare land around the derelict never-used leper colony.

These are pretty interesting abandoned structures. Tenerife seems to have plenty of them. Great pics, nice find!
